The Durbin Rocket “In the Tunnel”

Photo of the Week

Durbin Rocket, Durbin West Virginia
Train in tree tunnelV1

The Durbin Rocket is a re-purposed logging steam engine that now pulls a tourist train through five miles of West Virginia countryside streaking along at about five miles per hour. The ride travels across meadows, along the East Fork River, and stops along the river where passengers can get off and take a walk, or picnic or fish the river, and catch the afternoon train back to town.

The train enters the “tunnel” shortly after leaving the station. The engine pushes the train outbound and pulls it back to the station. The photo shows the engine pushing the train away through the tree tunnel.
