Christmas Eve Beach Walk

We had just left the SkyWheel and decided to walk the mile along the beach back to the condo. This was the best day yet for a walk. The sun was almost shinning, temperatures were mild, and there was little wind on the beach.

This reminds me of photos of beaches packed with people on a holiday weekend.

I confess, these are not my favorite beaches—I like to explore or look for interesting shells, critters, etc. There are a few shells here; most are just shell fragments and not collectable to me. There are no rocky outcrops or tide pools to investigate.

Still, a walk on the beach is a good thing. I had to rely on the seagulls to provide entertainment. A huge flock had gathered on the beach and cautiously stayed a short distance ahead of us, strutting rapidly along the beach. They were clearly uninterested in flying, but I had other plans for them.

I stepped up the pace and was about to wade into the flock when first one bird, and soon the rest of the flock took to the air. The photos show the progression.

Suddenly, the flock explodes into flight on feet in front of me.

I added a couple more typical beach scenes of people enjoying the unseasonably mild weather.
